Chocolate consumption on the rise

As prices are decreasing, Egyptians are noticeably increasing their consumption of chocolate-based products. According to a research firm based in London, Euromonitor International, annual consumption at the national level increased by 10% in 2013. In order to get closer to this rapidly developing consumption basin, major agri-food companies are establishing themselves in the country. This is the case with the giant Nestlé, which opened a Crunch factory in 2014, increasing the capacity of its industrial facilities in Cairo. The Swiss agri-food group now employs 6,300 people, proof of the strategic importance that Egypt has throughout the North African basin. The entire agri-food sector there has moreover been assessed by Commodafrica at 1.6 billion dollars, in terms of sales revenue.
