The state of Chicago

Illinois shares its borders with Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky, Indiana and the Lake of Michigan. Illinois primarily has mainly plains and fields and is covered in forests on the south part of its territory.

Springfield, its capital, was where Abraham Lincoln lived for 24 years. Because of this, the state has many historical sites that commemorate Lincoln - the 16th president of the United States. It is also well known for its artistic events and also for the annual Carillon festival, which has been around since June of 1962.

But other than Springfield, there is Chicago - which is the third biggest city in the United States and that we know is also located in Illinois. The city overflows with skyscrapers, prestigious cultural and art museums, enormous workplace buildings that all have a modern architectural flare. Located on the west shore of Lake Michigan, its port, which is linked to the Atlantic Ocean (as well as Mississippi) allows for high volume commercial exchange but also serves as a gateway for several cruise ships. O’Hare airport, which is one of the most visited airports in the world, and also makes Chicago a true transportation hub.

It is the second industrial city in the United States, this city is also home to many companies’ headquarters like Boeing, United Airlines and even the giant-size corporation McDonald’s.

The state’s economy is pretty varied but is mostly agricultural, especially when it comes to the production of cereal, corn and pumpkins. It is also known for pork, sheep and dairy farming.

A chocolate academy in Chicago

The Franco-Belgian group ‘Barry Callebaut’ have a Chocolate Academy in Chicago, Illinois. At the head of this company you will find chocolate expert Jérôme Landrieu, who is from Landes, France. Jérôme developed his career in prestigious hotels and in 2011, was selected by his peers to be in the TOP 10 of the best artisan pastry chefs in the United States. His training school recruits more and more American candidates who are interested in becoming professionals in their field. Recently, the Chocolate Academy of Chicago hosted the final event of World Chocolate Master, which Florent Cheveau took the title for in May, 2017.

From another point of view, Illinois is not to be outdone with chocolate. In Geneva, a city located in between Aurora and Elgin (1 hour west of downtown Chicago), there is a chocolate truffle being sold for 2,700 euros at The All Chocolate Kitchen Store. Why is it so expensive, you ask? The truffle is made of Creole chocolate and out of 24 carat gold powder, all presented in a bottle of Dom Pérignon. Enjoy!

Rest assured that Planete Chocolat’s truffles are more affordable but nonetheless just as intriguing - their taste won’t disappoint you. There are mocha truffle, pistachio truffles, coconut and Belgian speculoos truffles… So, why wait?! Take advantage of our gift delivery service shipping to Illinois to enjoy our velvety smooth chocolates after a romantic dinner, with family or with friends!
