Alaska, The Last Frontier

This is the 49th U.S. state which became a part of the Union in 1959. It has been more than sixty years since its atonement with Russia in 1868. Because of its remoteness from the other 48 interior states, Alaska is considered as the Last Frontier of the United States. Moreover, just like Hawaii, Alaska’s primary characteristic is not sharing any other frontier with another American state. Alaska is twice as big as Texas and is also the biggest state in the U.S.

This state is known for its extremely cold climate, its sublime landscapes and its wildlife its cold regions (there are Grizzly bears, elk, caribou and Polar bears). Despite an upheaval of their traditional way of life, specifically due to petrol extraction, Native populations - like Inuits, Yupiks and Aleoutes - still live in Alaska.

Alaskan Cuisine

The local cuisine is heavily influenced by seafood. Salmon Bakes (made out of barbequed salmon) and Royal Crab are a part of the state’s culinary specialities. Wild berries, which exist in many shapes and forms throughout Alaska, are used in crumbles, tartes or even puddings.

There are quite a few popular coffee shops that reflect the region’s culture in a positive way. All thanks to their beautiful decorations and architecture, every coffee shop is very cultural and unique. It all revolves around the free enterprise for every individual shop that a lot of the residents possess. Alaskans love to have some good chocolate with their coffee. Whether its for a birthday, the birth of a baby or quite simply to thank somebody, a chocolatey gift will always be appreciated!
