The Canary Islands came under Spanish rule in the 15th century when the Treaty of Alcáçovas was concluded between the Spain and Portugal. The Canary Archipelago is volcanic in origin and the climate has a permanent spring-like feeling with temperatures that range between 64°F and 75°F. In economic terms, tourism is a major source of revenue. Agriculture there is not very developed, mostly consisting of grains, tobacco, vineyards and tropical fruits.
