Gabon, a modest producer of cocoa

While the Ivory Coast and Ghana monopolize the highest ranking of cocoa-bean producing countries in Africa, Gabon is also a part of the industry. Nevertheless, the Gabonese cocoa industry peaked in the 1970s and national production today is modest. There is political pressure to increase the annual production from 2000 tons in 2014. In order to reach these goals, The Gabonese government has created a Cocoa and Coffee Fund within the Stabilization and Equalization Fund. The efforts will be significant and are aimed at restoring cocoa plantations, disseminating production equipment and encouraging family farming. The principal areas for developing the production of cocoa beans are Woleu-Ntem in the North, Ogooué-Ivindo in the northeast and Ogooué-Lolo and Haut-Ogooué in the southeast.

Delivering chocolate to Gabon

As in the rest of Western AfricaGabon isn't a country with a signifcant level of chocolate consumption. Although large agri-food companies offer Gabonese mass-produced chocolate products, artisanal chocolates remain uncommon. Thanks to Planète Chocolat, whether you are in Libreville, Port-Gentil, Franceville, Oyem, Moanda or in Mouila, it's easy to get delicious chocolates. For Mother’s Day, a birthday, a birth, or even Valentine’s Day, think about boxes of pralines or assortments of ganaches created in Brussels by our best artisanal chocolatiers.
